The L.O.U. Reads Coalition is a group of local organizations and community leaders dedicated to ensuring that all children can read proficiently by the end of third grade. Despite the overall strength of our schools, there are too many children in the Lafayette County-Oxford-University (L.O.U.) community who reach the end of third grade without mastering the key reading skills that are proven predictors of long-term school success and high school graduation. The many members of the L.O.U. Reads Coalition work to address this problem by focusing their collective energy and expertise on four main areas: school readiness, attendance, out-of-school time opportunities, and targeted efforts to promote grade-level reading, including tutoring. The L.O.U. Reads Coalition joined the national Campaign for Grade Level Reading in 2015, making L.O.U. only the second community in Mississippi to do so. We hope you'll join us in growing great readers in Lafayette County!
